How to Find Cheap Cashmere

How to Find Cheap Cashmere

Cashmere--the word sounds exotic and mysterious. It promises something sensual. Goods made in cashmere are whisper soft to the touch; they seem to drape the figure perfectly. It is no wonder that people long to wear cashmere clothing and feel that luxury against their skin. It is also no wonder that cashmere can be extremely pricey. Don’t despair if you’re on a budget. You can find affordable cashmere—cheap for your wallet yet rich for your senses.

Step
1

Shop sales, especially those sales that follow a gifting occasion. Cashmere

sweaters

and scarves make wonderful gifts, and if they don’t sell out at the department store, you can find some terrific buys after holidays.

Step
2

Shop second-hand stores. The non-profit stores that raise funds for charitable causes are not likely to mark up a sweater just because its made in cashmere—they just want to sell the thing and make some money. You will be amazed at the deals to be had in a second-hand store. Apparently, some people would prefer to give away their cashmere rather than take it to the dry cleaners.

Step
3

Go to yard sales, not necessarily a garden-variety neighborhood yard sale, but exclusive yard sales. The Junior League, the Symphony Guild and organizations that attract people who wear cashmere every day, frequently sponsor fund raising sales, and they stock the shelves with their gently used cast-offs.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure your find isn't laced with moth holes--that could explain it's appearance at the second-hand store.
